Can you adjust the alarm settings?
Yes, in the PowerChute software, UPSs that are connected to computers can have their sensitivity settings adjusted, as well as disable the alarm, if desired. -
What is the lifespan of the battery, and does this UPS have a replacement?
Under normal use, the battery in the BE550G should have a lifespan of 3-5 years. When it's time to refresh the battery, APC offers a replacement battery cartridge (RBC) for the BE550G under part #APCRBC110. -
How do you turn off the alarm?
The alarm can be turned off for the BE550G using the PowerChute Personal Edition Software. Once the software has been installed, the UPS's audible alarms can be disabled by accessing the "Notifications Configuration" section found under the "Configurations" Tab and altering the "Battery Back-UPS Alarm" section. Here the alarms can be enabled for all events, disabled for all events, disabled during specific UPS conditions or during customer specified time periods. -
How long will this UPS power my system when the power goes out?
Runtimes of any UPS will vary based on the amount of power required by your connected devices. In the PowerChute Software, you can see 'Estimated Battery Time' based on the power-draw of your connected devices. -
Can I plug my laser printer into a UPS?
Due to the large amount of power used by laser printers, APC does not recommend connecting them to a UPS below 1500VA. If laser printers are connected, it may cause the UPS to transfer to battery repeatedly, exhausting the battery unnecessarily.

| This APC Back-UPS offers power and surge protection for wireless networks, computers, gaming consoles and other electronics in your home or business. The 550VA floor/wall mount UPS has 8 total outlets, 4 of which are battery back up and surge protection, and 4 that are surge protection only. It has a surge energy rating of 340 Joules. This battery backup is designed to power wireless home networking devices (router and modem) for hours during utility outages so you can stay connected and productive. This computer backup offers lifetime guaranteed surge protection with a $75,000 equipment protection policy. The side of this 550VA UPS includes 2 keyhole sockets to easily mount the battery backup on a wall in hard to reach installations. The outlets are arranged with spaces to accommodate both average sized power plugs and transformer block power plugs. Use the included PowerChute software to configure settings and set up automatic graceful shutdown of a connected PC in the event of an extended power outage. Audible alarms provide notification of changing utility power and UPS conditions. Audible alarms can be muted. This UPS has a 3-year warranty and CE product certification.
